Carry-on luggage: choosing the right size without surprises

There is no universal cabin size: every airline sets its own rules. Here is how to choose a suitcase that gets through boarding stress-free.

1. Check your airline's dimensions

Most US airlines accept carry-on bags up to about 22 × 14 × 9 in, but some are stricter, and the free personal item on basic economy fares is often much smaller. Before you travel, always check your airline's baggage page: it is the final word.

2. Count the wheels and handle

Airline limits include wheels and handles, so compare the suitcase's outer dimensions, wheels included, with your ticket's limits. If you're unsure about a Bohmia model, ask us for its exact measurements before ordering.

3. Think about empty weight

Some airlines also cap the weight of cabin bags. A light shell leaves more room for your belongings.

4. Pick the opening that suits you

  • Classic opening: ideal for longer stays, everything packs flat.
  • Front opening: handy for grabbing a laptop or jacket without unpacking.
